The 4.6 × 36 mm CETME is a cartridge that was developed by CETME ( Centro de Estudios Técnicos de Materiales Especiales ) for the HK36 experimental assault rifle from the German company Heckler & Koch around 1971 .
A hard core made of tungsten carbide was provided for the bullet to increase the penetration power . Further development was then discontinued in 1976 in favor of the caseless cartridge 4.7 mm for the G11 from Heckler & Koch.
