Player positions in volleyball

The 5-1 system , along with the 4-2 system and the 4-0-2 system, is one of the game systems in volleyball .

In the 5-1 system there is only one player and five attacking players. This has the advantage that the operator and the diagonal attacker positioned diagonally to him can concentrate fully on their areas of responsibility in training and during the game. In the 4-0-2 system, on the other hand, the two actors must take on both the role of the actor and that of the attacker. If the player is in the back row in the 5-1 system, the team has three attackers on the net.

The higher the level of the volleyball team, the higher the requirements for the specialization of the individual players. This means that at a higher level the game is played almost exclusively in the 5-1 system.

The player almost always plays in positions 1 and 2 (on the right edge of the field) and builds the game from this side. The team consists of two outside attackers (in position 4), two middle blockers (item 3), one operator (item 2) and one diagonal attacker who is diagonally opposite the operator (item 5).
