6 point game

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A 6-point game is a popular word in team sports in which three points are awarded for a win. The expression is particularly common in football reporting. This is a championship game in which two teams with similar scores meet. In fact, even in a 6-point game, the winner only gets three points. In Austrian one speaks of a cut section because of the high “harvest yield” .

background

In the course of a season, the constellation occurs again and again that teams compete against each other who have collected the same number or the same number of points in the previous championship and are therefore close together in the table. This offers the chance to beat the direct competitor, while the latter cannot score. The victorious opponent thus benefits twice.

example

In the following example, team B has the opportunity to overtake team A, which otherwise would not be possible "on their own" (if they did not meet directly). On the other hand, team A could set itself apart stronger if successful.

Initial situation:

team Points
Team A 45
Team B 43

Victory team B:

team Points
Team B 46
Team A 45

Victory team A:

team Points
Team A 48
Team B 43

For team A, the different outcomes in relation to team B mean six points difference (one point behind or five points ahead).

In relation to all other teams, the difference remains at three points plus or minus.
