The 6 e régiment de tirailleurs algériens - 6 e RTA ( German  6. Protect Algerian regiment ) was an infantry regiment of the French army . It existed from 1913 until Algeria became independent in 1962.

The unit was set up in 1913 from parts of the 2 e régiment de tirailleurs algériens and stationed in Tlemcen . The regiment took part in battles during World War I in France and Belgium . and was involved in the French intervention in the Rif War . Parts were also stationed in the Levant . During the Second World War , the regiment fought until defeat in the western campaign in France and then during the African campaign in Tunisia . The unit also fought in the Indochina War . The regiment was disbanded in 1962 after Algerian independence.
