description
The exact time of construction of the buildings is not known, so that only the early 19th century can be given as a period. The self-contained apartment buildings occupy the space along Shore Street north of the junction with Pier Road opposite the pier up to the junction of Shore Street with Main Street . You follow the bend in Shore Street in a north-westerly direction. Across the street from houses 8-10 is the rocky coastline of Loch Indaal , where Port Charlotte is located, so this side is undeveloped and the buildings are clearly visible from the waterfront. House no. 10 forms the corner house, which to the west of the bend in the street still has an archway that leads to the back yard.
With the exception of the corner house, all buildings were built in traditional construction on elongated areas. The houses are not structurally identical, but still have something in common. With the exception of houses 8 and 12, the entrances are in the center of the front and are symmetrically surrounded by five windows. The houses mentioned have the same number of windows as the previous ones, but they do not have a symmetrical arrangement. Although the houses have different gable heights, they are all built on two floors and end with slate-covered gable roofs . They are made of quarry stone and partly plastered using the traditional Harling technique.
