Lists on the subject

The rim cartridge 8 × 56 mm R (also 8 × 56 mm R M30S or 8 mm Solothurn ) was an Austrian, Hungarian and Bulgarian orderly cartridge of the 20th century. It was first introduced in Austria in 1930 as the M30.

history

8 × 56 mm R (left), 8 × 50 mm R (right)

The cartridge was developed from the 8 × 50 mm R Mannlicher cartridge , which still had a round head bullet. In order to provide it with a pointed bullet, the sleeve was lengthened to 56 mm, as the aerodynamically shaped pointed bullet was shorter than the old round head bullet. In addition, the bullet diameter has been increased to 8.35 mm.
