99designs is an online marketplace for graphic design services and is currently the largest interface between designers and customers worldwide. The headquarters are in San Francisco , with additional offices in Melbourne and Berlin .
Services
99designs is based on the classic crowdsourcing principle and uses the platform to connect graphic designers with clients who have a need for design . Using the pitch competition principle, designers can take part in competitions to create products such as websites , t-shirts or logos . During the competition, the client works together with the designers on the drafts in order to end up with the design he envisioned. The competition ends with the selection of a winning design, the winning designer then receives the previously advertised prize money. At 99designs you can also work directly with a designer. There are over 900,000 registered graphic designers available for this, which are listed in the designer directory.
history
The company was founded in 2008 by Mark Harbottle and Matt Mickiewicz in Melbourne . The company opened its US headquarters in San Francisco back in 2010. In 2011, the company secured $ 35 million in the first major funding round from Accel Partners and several other business angels . In 2015 Accel Partners again invested in the design marketplace. That same year, 99designs received a $ 10 million strategic investment from Recruit Strategic Partners in a B round of funding.
With the takeover of the European creative marketplace 12designer, the company was able to gain a foothold in the German market in 2012. In the following year, other local versions of 99designs such as French, Spanish, Dutch, Italian and Japanese followed in addition to German. In the same year, the company took over the Brazilian design marketplace LogoChef and thus expanded into the Portuguese-speaking market. In 2015, 99designs recorded sales of more than 50 million euros, making it the most successful year in the company's history to date. In the same year the company announced a cooperation with the German web hosting provider Jimdo .
