Aïssatou Cissé , also Aissatou Cisse (* 1971 in Dakar , Senegal ), is a Senegalese writer, activist and advisor to the Senegalese President.

Life

Cissé was born around 1971 in Niayes Thioker in the Senegalese capital Dakar into a family of eight siblings. Her mother suffered from rheumatism, when Cissé was born, the limbs were involuntarily moved by the medical staff, so that she still suffers from a physical handicap.

Cissé managed to complete her school education and then study modern literature. At the age of 18 she began to work as a writer, according to the journalist Charlotte Wiedemann "out of anger about the polygamy in the family of her best friend".

Cissé published her first book in 2002 under the title Zeina, followed in 2004 by Linguère Fatim.

Cissé has also been appointed as advisor to Senegalese President Macky Sall. She was also strongly committed to people with disabilities; together with the Ministry of Health, she created a plan to make the state sports halls accessible to disabled people. She is also Commissioner for the African Peer Review Mechanism for Good Governance, a mechanism of the African Union. Cissé is also a member of the African Feminist Forum.
