ACE Corporation

The ACE Corporation , a company in Philadelphia , USA , built in the 1920s heavy motorcycles . William G. Henderson , the founder of the motorcycle brand of his name, had sold his company to Excelsior in 1917 and founded the ACE Corporation with Max Sladkin in 1919 in order to again build large motorcycles with a displacement of close to 1200 cc with longitudinally mounted four-cylinder in-line engines. After Henderson had a fatal accident on a test drive on December 11, 1922, Arthur O. Lemon managed the plant. In 1927 the company went to competitor Indian , who followed the Indian with the name ACE (without dots) and named the motorcycles Indian-ACE until 1929. The later improved machines were only called "Indian" after 1929.

An improved version of the inline four-cylinder side valve was introduced in 1916 (Powerplus) by his assistant, CJ Gustafson.

The first four-cylinder in-line engines in motorcycles were used by the Belgian manufacturer FN as early as 1904 .
