Henderson (motorcycle manufacturer)
Henderson was an American motorcycle manufacturer who produced large-volume motorcycles from 1911 to 1931.
history
The Henderson Motorcycle Company was founded in 1911 by William G. Henderson and his older brother Thomas W. in Detroit ( Michigan founded). In January 1918 the company was taken over by the Excelsior Motor MFG company. & Supply Co. , which belonged to the entrepreneur Ignaz Schwinn and produced motorcycles with V2 engines under the " Excelsior " brand. The company's headquarters were now in Chicago ( Illinois ), where Henderson production was relocated to in 1920 . Chief engineer William Henderson, like his brother, left Excelsior in 1919 and founded the ACE Motorcycle Company . He was killed in a traffic accident on December 11, 1922. In September 1931, apparently as a strategic response to the global economic crisis , Ignaz Schwinn stopped motorcycle production despite good sales figures.
technology
The main feature of all Henderson motorcycles is a four-cylinder , four-stroke , in- line engine with a crankshaft positioned lengthways to the direction of travel . The chassis consist entirely of tubular steel frames with rigid rear and front suspension.
