In Northern Ireland an A2 was established in 1923. This is a coastal road and it runs between Londonderry and Newry . It was initially divided into two parts. The gap was between Donaghdee and Clough and was bridged by the B11, which was split in two on this route by a ferry. The A2 soon took over the B11 completely in its route.
