ABC alarm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An ABC alarm warns of an impending danger from the use of atomic (nuclear), biological or chemical warfare agents ( ABC weapons ).

It is also called the CBRN alarm (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear).

In the Federal Republic of Germany the population is warned by the competent authorities of the respective federal state. A warning is usually given over the radio or through loudspeaker announcements on site. The federal civil protection sirens, which were previously used for NBC and air raid alarms , were taken out of service at the end of 1992, although some of these installations are still used at the municipal level for the purpose of fire and disaster control . A comprehensive ABC alarm system using sirens is no longer provided in Germany. The siren signal of an ABC alarm is a one-minute sequence in which a constantly rising and falling howling sound is interrupted twice for fifteen seconds each. After a pause of 30 seconds, this sequence is repeated.

In Austria a siren signal specially designed for the ABC alarm is not known.

armed forces

In the Bundeswehr , an ABC alarm is triggered by calling “ABC alarm” and the ABC alarm cartridge with the signal pistol (a luminous star with changing colors white-red-white and a whistle tone).

According to the available reconnaissance results and situation assessment of the superior command authority, the threat situation is announced by the NBC defense officer in the daily situation orders so that soldiers can take initial protective measures (put on protective suits, pack material, have protective equipment ready) and meet the ordered readiness for NBC protection level - see also NBC defense of all troops (Bundeswehr)

In addition to the illuminated signs, the ABC alarm can also be given by the following measures:

  • Call "ABC alarm!"
  • Point to your own NBC protective mask
  • Alarm cartridge ABC alarm signal pistol
  • by radio
