NBC defense of all troops (ABCAbwATr) refers to all measures in the Bundeswehr to reduce the effects of atomic, nuclear, biological and chemical weapons outside the NBC defense force .

Framework

The security of Germany and the NATO and EU member states is always endangered by international terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction . Due to the worldwide spread of NBC weapons and the increasing industrialization of nuclear and chemical industries, the Bundeswehr must continue to be prepared for the hazards posed by NBC weapons.

  • ABC education (recognizing the use of ABC resources),
  • Behavior before, during and after the use of NBC warfare agents as well
  • makeshift decontamination (blasting, detoxifying, decontaminating and removing personnel and material)

Individual protection

Every soldier has to

  • know the effects of NBC weapons,
  • can protect themselves against the effects of NBC weapons,
  • be able to handle their NBC protective equipment and protective clothing safely and quickly and
  • Being able to help oneself and fellow workers even under these conditions.

Constant protective measures

The hazard from NBC agents also requires preventive protective measures, e.g. B. loosening up, moving into protected rooms or covering unprotected material. Soldiers can protect themselves against nuclear and chemical warfare agents with self-protection structures, other cover and armored vehicles with NBC protective ventilation. At the same time, he always carries the protective equipment with him. Constant protective measures against biological warfare agents can u. a. through careful personal hygiene, covering up even small injuries, constant maintenance of hygienically appropriate conditions ( latrines , spade walk, clean drinking water, etc.) as well as vaccinations .

Personal NBC protective equipment

  • NBC protective mask M2000
  • Overgarment with overshoes (NBC protective clothing) - is only given out when required
  • Field poncho made of water-repellent material - is only issued for use
  • NBC protective gloves - withdrawn due to the lack of classification and labeling of substances and mixtures, now only oversized rubber gloves
  • ABC self-help equipment, consisting of decontamination powder (also called detoxification powder), cloth, medical supplies, cleaning agents, warfare agent tracing paper, drinking tube and ear plugs; also in times of war two atropine - auto-injectors , pyridostigmine tablets and water pollution control means
  • Carrying bag NBC protective mask ("atomic case")

Threat and job-specific protection states

The threat and order-adjusted protection states (BAS) are ordered by the higher-level management (association level) depending on the respective NBC threat situation. The threat situation results from the enemy's possibilities for the use of NBC weapons. Contaminated area is generally not entered, but monitored by the NBC reconnaissance forces of the NBC defense force with the help of the Fuchs armored vehicle and released after the contamination has subsided.

The BAS levels are ordered to protect soldiers from sudden use of NBC weapons. The respective BAS levels are described in detail in the ABC pocket card.

  • BAS 0: Personal protective equipment on the person
  • BAS 1: The jacket and pants of the overgarment are put on, the rest of the equipment is on the person
  • BAS 2: Overshoots put on the overgarment
  • BAS 3: Personal NBC protective clothing is worn completely, gloves, overgarment hood and NBC protective mask are put on
  • BAS 4: The poncho is thrown over the fully donned suit

In every platoon or comparable sub-unit, a 2-man NBC defense force is ordered in a second function (in infantry platoons a 2-man ABCAbwTrp per group). Most of the soldiers in the tank destruction squad (Panzerfaustschützen in a group) are trained as ABC / SE soldiers in a secondary role. These sense and measure contamination from ABC agents in the area of ​​their own troops and support the makeshift decontamination. Detection equipment (tracer paper, this discolors if contaminated) and decontamination equipment are available for this.

The soldiers of the supply train of the 1st / staff and supply company set up the troop decontamination point (TEP) and operate it for troop decontamination at the association level. This also serves to maintain general hygiene through shower tents with hot water.

Forces of the NBC defense force build the main detoxification area (HEP) at the level of the large association and take over and strengthen the decontamination and disinfection of the force.

education

The NBC defense training for all troops is carried out as part of the general basic training . In addition to recognizing NBC active agents, the focus here is on getting used to NBC protective equipment and safely using it when putting it on and taking it off. The NBC protective mask should be put on within 9 seconds, observing a specified sequence. In addition, the recruits learn how to use the self-help equipment correctly and how to help themselves and companions under NBC protection. After acquiring the basic knowledge of NBC defense, behavior and piercing through contaminated rooms as well as self and third-party decontamination are trained in the group. As part of the follow-up training, knowledge of NBC defense for all troops is deepened and, in accordance with the central instructions, training and maintenance of individual basic skills and physical performance are repeated annually.
