Self protection

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Self-protection is primarily the protection against certain negative influences through precaution or self-defense .

term

Self-protection is a sub-concept of civil protection and describes personal behavior in external emergency situations, the self-help ability of the individual to prepare for crises, disasters, accidents or the case of defense. In contrast to this, civil protection (in the Federal Republic of Germany) is carried out by private institutions such as the German Red Cross , local fire brigades or the Maltese relief service as well as by federal and state institutions.

If the term self-protection is used in connection with self-defense, it stands for various possibilities of counter-defense, in particular to avert damage to life and limb and to property. If this counter-defense is carried out physically, for example by force of arms, it can still be exempt from punishment if one was forced to do so.

  • Make provision for clean drinking water (in the event of a burst pipe or an evacuation ), for example using Mikropur chlorine silver ion tablets or Katadyn filters .
  • Provide emergency baggage, for example a full rucksack with first aid material, radio with a crank, copies of documents, food for at least two days, lighter, outdoor clothing , means of transport such as a rubber dinghy, lightweight tent and more - as a precaution when the house or the house Apartment must be vacated in the event of flooding, chemical accidents or house fire.
  • Take precautions against a power failure through camping stoves and information media that are independent of electricity - for example with a battery-operated radio with reserve batteries or a crank radio.
  • in long-term emergencies, own vegetable and potato cultivation.

The BKK also recommends keeping a ready-to-hand document folder with all important documents and depositing them with friends, relatives, notaries, lawyers or banks.

In connection with the new concept for civil defense in Germany presented in August 2016, there is also the development of a new framework concept for self-protection for the federal government and federal states from October 18, 2019.

Historical

The term self-protection was also used for paramilitary groups, in particular for the ethnic German self-protection in German-occupied Poland and in the Romanian-occupied Transnistria governorate as well as the Upper Silesian Self-Protection and the Self-Protection of Upper Silesia at the time of the uprisings in Upper Silesia .
