The document set is in the context of by the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Relief published (BBK) recommendation for voluntary personal emergency preparedness a compilation of all relevant documents in order in case of emergency to be at hand.
BKK recommendations in detail
The BKK recommends specifying which documents are absolutely necessary and provides the following list of important documents:
as original:
- Family certificates ( birth , marriage , death certificates ) or family records
in the original or as a certified copy :
- Savings books , account contracts, stocks, securities, insurance policies
- Pensions - pensions and - income certificates , income tax assessments
- Qualification the evidence: evidence ( school certificates , university certificates , proof of additional qualifications )
- Contracts and amendment contracts , e.g. B. also rental contracts , leasing contracts etc.
- Will , living will and power of attorney
as a simple copy:
- ID card , passport , driver's license and vehicle documents
- Land register extracts
- all change notices for services received
- Payment receipts for insurance premiums , in particular pension insurance
- Evidence of registration from the employment offices, notices from the employment agency
- Invoices that prove outstanding payment claims
- Membership or contribution books of associations, clubs or other organizations
The BKK recommends keeping these documents together in a bag , the location of which all family members should know. The BKK also advises keeping duplicates of important documents with friends, relatives, notaries, lawyers or banks .

The Austrian civil defense recommends keeping a document folder as part of the evacuation backpack ready to hand.
In the United States , the Federal Emergency Management Agency issues a checklist for storing important documents and valuables in the event of a disaster. This includes personal evidence ( birth, marriage, divorce, adoption and custody certificates , passport , driver's license, social security card , green card and proof of pets) as well as financial and medical documents, contact information and valuables. She recommends digital storage in a fire and waterproof safe or in a cloud, in encrypted form, and generally emphasizes fire and waterproof storage of the documents.
