Your candidate for President, Alpha Oumar Konaré, became President of the Republic . ADEMA-PASJ continued in government for the following decade and Konaré was re-elected in 1997 after boycotting the elections.

At the end of Konaré's second legislative term, the ADEMA-PASJ split over the question of the successor to the president, with Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta leaving the party in October 2000 to found the movement for Mali . Former Prime Minister Mandé Sidibé also left the party to run for president.
