The Armored Engineer Reconnaissance Vehicle ( AERV for short ) is an Indian pioneer tank based on the hull of the Sarath , an Indian licensed version of the BMP-2 . It is developed and manufactured by the Indian arms company Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

technology

The AERV is a special reconnaissance vehicle, which is supposed to examine the area according to pioneer tactical conditions. It is equipped with special detection and data transmission technology for this purpose. In addition to a laser rangefinder and a navigation system, the equipment also includes geometric or physical measuring devices. Furthermore, a flow profile echograph is installed, with which, in addition to the flow velocity , the bottom profile of standing and flowing water can be recorded. In addition, the tank has a marking device with a total of 50 flags, which can be folded from the top of the vehicle to the left side of the vehicle if necessary. This enables the path to be marked out for the following army units. The measured values collected by the AERV are processed using the computer technology that is carried along and then transmitted to higher-level staff.

The tank is buoyant without preparation and the occupants are protected against ABC effects . The crew consists of two to three men. The driver sits on the front left next to the engine . The vehicle is unarmed and only has a total of six smoke capsules.
