The committees are made up of specialists and managers from ministries, state youth welfare offices, youth welfare offices, independent organizations, professional associations and universities - all members of AFET.

The specialist journal "Dialog Erziehungshilfe" appears four times a year with current articles on the practice of educational assistance.

The association is funded by the Federal Ministry for Families, Seniors, Women and Youth.

history

In 1906 the first General Welfare Education Day (AFET) was convened in Breslau . In 1912 AFET eV was entered in the register of associations with the statutory purpose of "(...) creating personal contact (...) and promoting the cause of welfare (forced) education in every way" (statute February 5, 1912). In the course of its existence, the AFET gave impulses for the qualification of public education and opened up beyond the institutions to services, authorities and associations of educational assistance. A general reorientation and restructuring of help for children, adolescents and their families resulted in the introduction of SGB VIII in 1990/91 , with the change from welfare education to educational assistance, which is why the association changed its name for the first time. In the years that followed, the requirements placed on specialist practice changed significantly. The associated changing requirements for association work led to a renewed restructuring of the association and the adjustment of the statutes to these changes in 2004. Since then, the name has been changed again to AFET - Bundesverband für Erziehungshilfe eV

Since 2000, AFET has also provided the framework for the nationwide arbitration conference in accordance with Section 78g (1) SGB VIII, in which the chairmen of the arbitration board and managements network nationwide for professional exchange.

Member associations

Due to its cross-country, cross-agency and cross-organizational structure, membership is broad. Ministries, supreme state youth authorities and state youth welfare offices are members, as are local youth welfare offices and independent organizations, supporting associations, professional associations, (technical) universities, training centers, municipal umbrella organizations and individual members. Several specialist publications by AFET appear annually to promote the practice of public and private bodies.
