The International Actuarial Association (IAA) is the international umbrella organization of national actuarial organizations based in Ottawa . The organization, founded in 1895, serves the exchange of knowledge and works as a lobby organization for international projects.

In 1895 the organization was founded under the name Comité Permanent des Congrès d'Actuaires . At the time, it was still made up of individual persons, but in 1968 the organization changed its name to the International Actuarial Association . In the course of time the various specialist groups came into being. The first section was founded in 1957 with ASTIN (Actuarial Studies In Non-life Insurance) , later followed by IACA (International Association of Consulting Actuaries, 1968) , AFIR (Actuarial Approach for Financial Risk, 1988) , IAAHS (International Actuarial Association Health Section , 2003) , PBSS (Pensions, Benefits, Social Security Section, 2003) , AWB (Actuaries Without Frontiers Borders, 2003) and LIFE .

The IAA was restructured as part of a congress held in Birmingham , England in June 1998 . Due to the growing requirements, the company changed its legal form and from then on operated as an association under Swiss law with its seat in Ottawa, Canada . In addition, the constitution replaced individual membership with national actuary organizations.

The organization has two main organs. This is on the one hand the Executive Committee and on the other hand the IAA Council. In addition to one representative from each of the national member organizations and the chairmen of the individual sections, the council consists of four elected boards, including the chairman of the previous year. The Executive Committee consists of twelve members, including the four elected directors. The executive committee is elected by the council. It is responsible for the activities and activities of the organization and suggests the direction and budget.
