The abbreviation AISCGre stands for Associazione Internazionale Studi di Canto Gregoriano and denotes the International Society for the Study of Gregorian Chant.

The aim of the AISCGre is the research and dissemination of Gregorian chant . The AISCGre is particularly committed to Eugène Cardine's life's work and the Gregorian semiology he founded . It sponsors courses, lectures, meetings, publications, concerts and recordings in the field of Gregorian chant. She pays particular attention to the connection between theory and practice.

history

AISCGre was founded on February 27, 1975 in Rome . It has been based in Cremona since 1979 . In the 40 years of its existence, the AISCGre has grown steadily and today has around 500 members worldwide.

Organizational matters

The AISCGre operates in five sections: the Italian, the German-speaking, the Japanese, the Spanish and the Polish section. Members can be found in 30 countries around the world on every continent. The president of AISCGre International was Luigi Agustoni from 1979 to 1999 and Johannes Berchmans Göschl from 1999 to 2015 . At the international congress in Lugano from September 8 to 12, 2015, Alexander M. Schweitzer was elected as the new president.

Publications

The German-speaking section of the AISCGre has published the journal Contributions to Gregorian Chant ( ISSN  0935-9044 ) since 1985 . It appears every six months as a member of the German-speaking section. Her articles document the current state of research on Gregorian chant and report on topics related to the practice of schola chant .

The Italian, Spanish and Polish sections publish specialist journals in their respective languages.
