The T4 of the Altona-Kaltenkirchen-Neumünster (AKN) railway company was manufactured by LHW Breslau in 1934 . The diesel railcar was in use until 1966 and was then retired and scrapped.

history

After the AKN had started railcar operation in 1930 with three railcars from Deutsche Werke ( AKN T1 – T3 ), followed in 1934 with the T4, a larger vehicle with a diesel-electric drive. This enabled the company to handle almost all passenger train traffic with multiple units on working days. It has been estimated that 25 multiple units run per day, which would cover about 1,400 train kilometers.

Originally, the company wanted to procure more railcars. Only the AKN T5 could still be realized in 1940. The lack of diesel fuel limited the use. More and more steam trains had to be driven. After the Second World War , several Esslingen railcars were purchased that were superior to the pre-war railcars . Further application dates of the AKN T4 are not known. The railcar was retired in 1966 and scrapped at the Lauenburg scrap dealer.

Constructive features

The car body had a rounded front with laterally offset transition doors. The entrance doors are drawn in further, the side windows had a double skylight, with the large side windows having fixed glazing. Lowerable windows were only in the doors of the entrances and the luggage compartments. There was a lockable driver's cab at both ends of the vehicle. On one side, the electric motors were housed in the bogie. On this side the entrance was behind the driver's cab, in the entrance area there were folding seats. On the other side the bogie carried the diesel engine, behind the driver's cab there was a luggage compartment with two folding doors on each side, the engine protruding into this space. The entry room was only after that. The 3rd class passenger compartment was located between the boarding rooms. It consisted of two segments of roughly the same size for smokers / non-smokers, and there was also a toilet in the smoking compartment.

The six-cylinder diesel engine had an output of 250 hp and was connected to a generator that generated electricity for the electric traction motors.
