ALAS (missile)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The rocket system ALAS - Advanced Light Attack System (where "alas" also means fisherman in Serbian ) is a guided missile from Serbia and is to be introduced into the armed forces of Serbia from 2008 .

technology

The ALAS is an optical / wire-guided guided missile system for ground and anti-sea target combat. The system can be used both on the ground and on the air. It is designed for distances between 100 m and 25 km, optionally up to 60 km.

The missile system shows strong parallels with the German-French-Italian Polyphem program , which was canceled in 2003 and was designed as an anti-ship missile up to a range of also 60 km.

variants

Nimr launch platform for ALAS-C guided missiles

The guided missile system has so far been produced in three variants:

  • ALAS-A : Floor-to-floor variant with a range of 25 km.
  • ALAS-B : floor-to-floor variant with a range of 60 km.
  • ALAS-C (Coastal Defense): Take- off from a vehicle from the mainland. The range is 25 km to 50 km. The ALAS-C is being developed together with the United Arab Emirates . In this context, the armored wheeled vehicle Nimr (6x6) from UAE production is used as a weapon platform.

The RALAS version was presented at IDEX 2019, which is a smaller version of the ALAS. Instead of a jettisonable booster and a ramjet, this version consists of a solid rocket engine. Eight launchable rockets can be carried on a NIMR chassis. The RALAS only has a range of 10 km, but it is significantly cheaper.
