International Defense Exhibition
The International Defense Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) is the largest business fair for the arms industry for state security and armaments in the Middle East , which takes place every two years in Abu Dhabi ( United Arab Emirates ). The fair took place for the first time on February 14, 1993.
The fair is aimed at the use of combat systems of an offensive type, i.e. for active attack, and a defensive type, for defense. Nevertheless, in addition to the armaments companies, there are other companies at the fair that cannot be directly assigned to the armaments industry. This includes in particular companies that manufacture protection systems against fire or gas, for example, or companies whose business is logistics with war materials.

Compared to 2005, IDEX grew by 40 percent in 2007.
The Federal Association of the German Security and Defense Industry (BDSV) exhibits regularly at the fair. In 2017 he was represented by 49 companies in Abu Dhabi, although the association only has 43 member companies. The German armaments industry presented itself on 4,000 m² and, according to BDSV, was the second largest foreign exhibitor after the USA.
