The AMA Association for Sensor and Measurement Technology e. V. is a German industry association for technical measuring systems . It has 480 members. According to their own statements, 85% of them are members of the industry and 15% of them are institute members. Almost 7% of the members are from other European countries. Many other foreign manufacturers are members of the AMA through their German sales organizations.
The industry consists of around 2,300 sensor and measurement technology companies with around 250,000 employees and, according to the AMA, generates a turnover of around 35 billion euros. The association organizes the SENSOR + TEST trade fair every year and the AMA scientific congresses every 2 years. Once a year, the association awards the AMA Innovation Prize for exceptional research and development achievements in sensor and measurement technology. The prize money of 10,000 euros goes to the developers / development teams and not the institutions behind them. The special “Young Company” prize has been awarded since 2013; the winner (s) of this special category can present their development free of charge at the SENSOR + TEST trade fair.
The AMA Association for Sensor and Measurement Technology is the publisher of a scientific, international open access journal: Journal of Sensors and Sensor Systems.
history
On November 7th, 1980, 14 companies founded the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Messwertaufnehmer, or AMA for short. The AMA has been a registered association since January 1st, 1981. In 1992 the working group was renamed "AMA Fachverband für Sensorik e. V. “, since September 2013 expanded into AMA Association for Sensor and Measurement Technology e. V.
