The Archdiocese of Kunming ( Latin : Archidioecesis Coenmimensis ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Kunming in the People's Republic of China .

history

Pope Innocent XII. founded the Apostolic Vicariate of Yunnan with the Breve E sublimi Sedis on October 15, 1696 from cession of territory by the Diocese of Nanking . In 1715 it was dissolved and its territory was given to the Apostolic Vicariate of Sichuan .

With the Breve Cum ad augendam it was restored on August 28, 1840. It took the name of Apostolic Vicariate Yunnanfu on December 3, 1924. With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was elevated to the Metropolitan Archbishopric on April 11, 1946 .

Official Bishop Joseph Ma Ying-lin was consecrated on April 30, 2006 ; this consecration led to a protest note from the Holy See because the consecration took place without a mandate from the Pope and without the unity of the Church. Joseph Ma Ying-lin is the general secretary of the Chinese Bishops' Conference and Vice President of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association .

It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

Ordinaries

Vicars Apostolic of Yunnan

Vicars Apostolic of Yunnanfu

Archbishops of Lanzhou

  • Alexandre-Joseph-Charles Derouineau MEP (April 11, 1946 - September 30, 1973)
  • Kong Ling-zhong PSS (1962 - October 30, 1992) (Bishop of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association)
  • Joseph Ma Ying-lin (* 1965, since April 30, 2006 in office as Bishop of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association)
