AMOS price

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The AMOS Prize for Civil Courage in Church and Society has been awarded by the Open Church to people or initiatives every two years since 2001 .

Award

The award is given to people who pass on the message of the Bible that liberates and demands justice in a particularly impressive, prophetic way, or groups, initiatives and activities that exemplarily do justice to the political claim of the message of the coming kingdom of God.

Relation to the prophet Amos

The AMOS Prize is named after the prophet Amos , especially because of his social criticism (e.g. Amos 2, 6-8), cult criticism (e.g. 5, 21-23), and because Amos was expelled from the country as a result of this criticism (Amos 7, 10-17).

Patron

Erhard Eppler has been the patron of the AMOS Prize since 2001 . On March 17, 2019, he passed this task on to Herta Däubler-Gmelin .

Prize money and funding

The AMOS Prize is associated with prize money of 3000 euros. The AMOS Prize is financed by donations and by the AMOS Prize Foundation.
