Two SPG-49s

The AN / SPG-49 was a ship-based fire control radar , which by the US Corporation Sperry Corporation was produced.

description

This system was primarily used to control RIM-8 Talos guided weapons, but could also be used to control the guns. Development began in 1947 and was introduced in parallel with the Talos system. The fire control took place in the frequency range from 5.4 GHz to 5.9 GHz. The system was very bulky and heavy, which, together with the great susceptibility to interference, led to it being replaced by the AN / SPQ-5 soon . The last systems were decommissioned together with the decommissioning of the remaining Talos systems in 1979.
