The AN / ALQ-218 is an airborne system for electronic countermeasures and electronic reconnaissance at medium range. It is used by the US Corporation Northrop Grumman produces.

description

The ALQ-218, also known as the “Tactical Jamming System Receiver” (TJSR), was specially designed for cooperative use with the AN / ALQ-99 . It has a large number of receiver modules, including some interferometers , which can pick up radar signals from all over the airspace. A complex signal processing system enables the locations of the emitters to be determined with a very high degree of accuracy, even if they only send out very short and compressed signals. The geodata obtained are then immediately passed on to strong distance interference systems, preferably to the ALQ-99. The ALQ-218 can also fight hostile radar emitters independently. Due to the relatively low transmission power, however, the system is specialized in radars that use frequency spreading as an ECCM measure. The interference pattern can be adjusted so that the radar systems of friendly aircraft can work unaffected for a short time. The ALQ-218 has been in service since 2006, with over 15 systems delivered to date (March 2008).
