The AN / SPG-55 is a ship-based fire control radar , which by the US Corporation Sperry Corporation was produced.

description

The SPG-55 is used to control RIM-2 Terrier anti-aircraft missiles. It was produced by the US corporations Sperry Corporation and the Radio Corporation of America , both companies now belonging to Unisys and Thomson / Bertelsmann . The system works in the frequency range from 5.4 to 5.9 GHz and can also be used as an improvised search radar if necessary. The following variants are known:

  • AN / SPG-55: The basic model.
  • AN / SPG-55A: This version can also control semi-active guided missiles.
  • AN / SPG-55B: Variant for controlling Standard Missile 1 and Standard Missile 2 . In addition, the radiation output was significantly increased and the ECCM capacities expanded. In order to make enemy interference more difficult, the radar works on two frequencies at the same time, so that enemy interference systems have to distribute their power over both channels.
