An Australian Air Force AN / TPS-77 (2007)

The AN / TPS-77 is a portable D-band radar system for air defense. It is the successor to the portable version of the AN / FPS-117 , which was named AN / TPS-117. All of these radars belong to the so-called "117" radar family from Lockheed Martin Ltd., which also includes the AN / TPS-59 .

Like all devices in this family, the AN / TPS-77 also uses the advantages of a phased array antenna and the pulse compression method . Two transmission pulses of different lengths are used alternately in pulse train periods of different lengths in order to reduce the disadvantages of long transmission times in radar devices.

The AN / TPS-77 can be operated unmanned and remotely and is designed for continuous operation. An integrated program for troubleshooting ( BITE ), which was designed to be capable of learning and which automatically adjusts to changes in external environmental conditions, ensures high availability and minimal downtime of the radar system.
