The artist group ARTunique is a Rostock- based group of artists who focus on the beautification of objects and buildings. The group is also known for its exclusive canvases and wooden sculptures. Her works can be found in cities and landscapes all over Germany. The name of the group is made up of the words "Art" = "Art" and "unique" = "unique" and means "unique art".

Formation of the group

The artist group ARTunique is the further development of the recognized non-profit association “Graffiti-Freunde-Mecklenburg-Vorpommern eV”. The association founded in 1997, which has since been dissolved, was more than just a project for the artists involved at the time. The experiences gained with the association flow completely into the artist group ARTunique, which was founded in May 2002 from the association.

Christian Hölzer (* 1972), a trained forester and cabinet maker, is artistically responsible and organizer for all projects. Depending on the type and scope of the project, other people will be involved in the artist group.

Works

The artistic design of large facades, gables, walls, interior walls, power stations and other buildings and objects, both in terms of content and color, is ARTunique's main field of activity. The surfaces are painted using spray cans . Often they artistically incorporate nature and the environment into the projects / assignments. The group works as far as possible without the use of stencils or projectors.

ARTunique also makes canvases and wooden sculptures. The art of spraying and the art of designing wooden sculptures can also be learned by the group in workshops, which are offered by arrangement or in the form of social projects. The artist group has already been active in many well-known locations, or for public institutions, well-known companies, organizations and private individuals. This art can be found e.g. B.

  • in the S-Bahn station in Warnemünde
  • in the Ostseestadion in Rostock
  • at the substation in Warnemünde
  • in and at the Rostock Zoo
  • to the power distribution boxes of the Rügen Kleinbahn "Rasender Roland"
  • on the city motorway in Lichtenhagen
  • at several toilets in Graal-Müritz
  • in schools, clinics, power distribution boxes, public & private buildings worldwide

The group of artists thus contributes to the beautification of the landscape and is not to be confused with undesired “graffiti pictures”.

Social projects

The artist group is involved in social projects, such as B. support kindergartens, youth centers, museums and clubs. Furthermore, canvas donations are made available for donation campaigns that are worthy of support.

Exhibitions

In 2003 the group was invited by the Groeninge Museum in Bruges to artistically support the project “Young Primitives” in Belgium. The organizers had selected different squares, window openings and prominent locations throughout the city, for which special images were then designed and implemented.

Literature and specialist magazines

In addition to various articles and mentions in journals and specialist magazines, the group is mentioned in a separate chapter of the book "Hansa ist mein Leben" ( ISBN 978-3-35601-867-7 ).

The specialist magazine "Backspin" reported on the group and its works.
