ASABE

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers ) is an international society of engineers of the areas agricultural technology and biotechnology .

The predecessor was founded in 1907 in St. Joseph , Michigan , under the name, where today is still the headquarters of the organization American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE, agricultural engineers American Society ) founded.

The main purposes include the promotion of agricultural research and training, the issuing of agricultural technical publications and the setting of binding standards for the agricultural industry as well as the exchange between agricultural engineers. In addition, the ASABE organizes the 1/4 scale tractor competition every year . In this tractor design competition, student teams compete against each other with their own tractor designs on a 1: 4 scale. Among other things, performance, handling and safety as well as the written and oral presentation of the product are evaluated. ASABE is active in the following fields: bio-engineering , education and training, food technology , electrical and information technologies , engine and mechanical engineering , soil and water, environment and structures, ergonomics , safety and health protection , forest technology and aquaculture .

In 2005, after lengthy discussions, the members decided to change the name of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers to its current name to reflect the growing importance of biology and biochemistry in agriculture. Today the association has around 9,000 members in more than a hundred countries worldwide.

The board consists of 14 elected trustees (authorized representatives).
