ATRAC3plus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ATRAC3plus is the successor to the ATRAC audio codec . Technically, the codec uses subband coding and a modified discrete cosine transformation (MDCT) with 16 subbands. The volume and the frequency of the sound mix are constantly adapted to the listening characteristics.

Data rates in a range from 48 kbit / s to 352 kbit / s are possible and are used in Hi-MD recorders, HDD players, flash memory players and other ATRAC-capable CD players. ATRAC as the predecessor of ATRAC3plus was developed by Sony in 1991 for the MiniDisc . In 2003 the further developments ATRAC3 and ATRAC3plus followed.
