Subband coding

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The subband coding (or engl. Sub-band coding ) is on the Shannon's sampling theorem based technique for audio data compression . The digital signal is divided into different frequency bands . Each sub-band is coded depending on its signal level . As a result, signal components that are primarily imperceptible to the ear are lost ( masking effect , i.e. very quiet tones overlaid by loud tones). Subband coding is used, among other things, for coding according to the MPEG audio standards (for example MP3 , MPEG-1 ).
