AVSI

AVSI ( The Association of Volunteers in International Service ) is a non - profit, non - governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1972 by Comunione e Liberazione and based in Milan. The purpose of the organization is activities in international development cooperation. It is based on the social teaching of the Catholic Church .

The organization's president has been Alberto Piatti since 2013, who had previously been vice-president of the Italian Comunione e Liberazione business association Compagna delle Opere from 1999 to 2011 . Today AVSI operates in 37 countries in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

AVSI has been certified for international adoption by the Italian government.

AVSI is financed through donations from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union, USAID , FAO , UNICEF and the World Bank .
