A Boy and His Atom: The World's Smallest Movie ( German  A boy and his atom: The smallest film in the world ) is the title of the smallest film stored in analog format according to the Guinness Book of Records , i.e. the film on the smallest carrier medium. The film only lasts a minute. It was created on April 30, 2013 at the IBM Almaden Research Center . It consists of 242 individual images in stop-motion technology and shows the contours of carbon monoxide molecules, the position of which was manipulated with the aid of a scanning tunneling microscope in such a way that they form a boy playing ball.
