Abane Ramdane ( Kabyle : ⵄⴱⴱⴰⵏ ⵕⵎⴹⴰⵏ Ɛebban Ṛemḍan ; * 1920 in Kabylia , Eastern Algeria, † 1957 in Morocco) was an activist of Algerian nationalism and a member of the Front de Liberation Nationale .

Life

Ramdane was Berber and was born in Kabylia. He was sentenced to prison in 1950 for working for nationalist organizations. After his release, he joined the FLN in 1955.

As a political leader, Ramdane was more and more marginalized by the three military leaders Crimea Belkassem , Ben Tobbal and Abdelhafid Boussouf, as he turned against their monopoly of power in their hands. He was murdered in Morocco in 1957 on the orders of Boussouf. The FLN media reported that he never returned to Algeria and that he died in battle.
