Abas (Sophist)
Abas was an ancient Greek sophist and rhetorician. It is only known about him through the Byzantine lexicon Suda that he wrote a historical commentary ( Ίστορικά ύπομνήατα ) and a work on rhetoric ( Τέχνη ρητορική ). He is also quoted from the Scholien of Hermogenes (7.203). Accordingly, one must set one's lifetime after that of Hermogenes. Eduard Schwartz considers it unlikely that this Abas is identical to the author of the same name from Troika .
