The abas Business Suite , which has been marketed under the product name abas ERP since 2014 , is software for enterprise resource planning (ERP) with integrated e-business applications that are used by series, make-to-order and contract manufacturers as well as trading and service companies is used to control and plan internal and cross-company processes. The system is mainly used in mechanical and plant engineering, in the automotive industry and in trading and service companies.

The software manufacturer is abas Software GmbH, founded in 1980 and based in Karlsruhe . The company is privately owned.

Software architecture

The software has a layered architecture. The foundation is an object-oriented database . The application level is based on databases and contains the main functionalities. The third and last level, the presentation layer or "flexible surface" (FO), interacts with the user. The "Individual User Interface", the "Standard Flexible User Interface" and the "abas Tools" are assigned to the presentation layer.

OS basis

Linux on AMD64 or Intel EM64T is currently (2017) possible server operating system . Windows was also supported up to version 2009. Windows or Linux ( Wine ) up to version 2016 is used on the workstation computers .

Database

Abas Business Suite uses its own object-oriented database (log database). Due to the log structure, the usual database features such as online backup, rollback and copying can be implemented much more easily and with greater reliability than in conventional databases. The following APIs are possible for database access: a Java -based framework AJO, a simple proprietary 4G language FO, APIs in C , C ++ , C # , Visual Basic , VBA and the standard interfaces ODBC and SQL .

Individual adjustments

Fields and tables can be added to the standard software at the database level. Existing or your own masks can be adapted and laid out with a graphic mask editor. At the event level, the business logic and dialog management can be adapted or designed using your own event handlers, whereby these can be implemented either in FO or Java. If the programming is done properly, these adjustments are retained in the event of updates. Groovy has also been supported since 2008 .

FO programs can e.g. B. can be written with the structogram editor EasyCODE. The Java-based implementation is supported by an AJO workbench integrated into the Eclipse development environment.

Web interface

With the additional product abas eBusiness, applications such as mobile sales, mobile service, mobile purchase as well as a web shop, product catalog, scanner connection, field service connection and browser interface can be implemented for abas ERP. SOAP services are available for exchanging data with other business suites .

Printing / reporting

Abas is delivered together with the open source product JasperReports . This enables the direct printing of receipts and the generation of reports in various file formats (e.g. PDF , Excel , XML ). An open interface enables additional reporting systems from third-party providers to be integrated.

documentation

Help is available in HTML format for users, administrators and developers , and the various Java interfaces are also documented in the commonly used Javadoc format.

Mobile applications

The mobile applications included in the standard scope of delivery of the abas company software enable platform and device-independent access to relevant company data. Operation is intuitive, and the user interface (UI) automatically adapts the user interface and content to the respective display size. With a narrow display, article information is shown in blocks arranged one below the other, with large displays, on the other hand, the entire width of the device can be used to display more information. If the data is too extensive and cannot be displayed in one view, an article full-text search is automatically added.

Mobile sales

This application is specially tailored to the needs of sales representatives. It enables online access to CRM and sales-related data. The users can use map apps, access mobile email clients and view, edit or create new offers, orders, invoices, tasks and notes from the ERP system.

Mobile service

Mobile Service supports service employees in the field with the planning and processing of service calls. The deployment planning for service technicians can be accessed via a calendar function. Customer data and service product information, including parts lists and service history, service orders and material planning, can be conveniently managed with the mobile applications. In addition, it is possible to use Mobile Service to manage material and report service calls while on the move.
