Abbeyhill was a whiskey distillery in Edinburgh , Scotland .
The exact founding date of the distillery is not known. The oldest recorded evidence of its existence deals with its bankruptcy in 1825. The building already had a typical pagoda roof and is therefore one of the early witnesses of commercial whiskey production in Scotland. After the distillery closed, the inventory was sold. In 1846, J. A. Bernard founded a new distillery called Croftanrigh in the buildings , but it only produced until 1852. This produced grain whiskey and used a coffee still for this . The buildings then went to the St. Anne's Brewery . Today the surviving buildings are listed on the Scottish Monuments Lists as Category B Monuments. The pagoda roof, characteristic of whiskey distilleries, is still there and reflects the building's past.
