Abdal Musa

Abdal Musa , also called Abdal Musa Sultan , was a dervish of the 13th / 14th centuries. Century. He came from the place Choy in Iran and is an important saint ( Abdāl ) in the teaching of the Alevis . According to a poem attributed to him, his family originally came from Khorasan . He was a student of Hacı Bektaş Veli and played an important role in restructuring the knowledge and prayer ritual of the Alevis. Even today, “edep ve erkan” (roughly: “decency and dignity”) is traced back to Abdal Musa. In addition, he was also involved in building up the Janissary troops (Turkish: Yeniçeri).

According to a legend, the Bektashi disciple caused the water to flow down from different sides of a mountain in winter and summer. There is also another legend about his pupil Kaygusuz Abdal , in which Kaygusuz Abdal shoots Abdal Musa Sultan in the form of a deer in the heart with a bow and arrow and pursues the wounded deer. When Kaygusuz Abdal comes to a house of prayer, the deer disappears in the body of Abdal Musa Sultan.

Every year on the first weekend in June, a commemorative festival is celebrated in the village of Tekke near Elmalı / Antalya in honor of Abdal Musa's generosity. Even today there is a story that in the time of Abdal Musa from all over India and Khorasan huge caravans of camels and horses moved to Anatolia.
