Selling price

The selling price is the price that has to be paid by the end customer to the retailer or by the latter to the wholesaler .

In Germany, a manufacturer is not permitted to set the selling price. Exceptions are special areas such as the book, magazine or drug trade (see also fixed book prices ). The manufacturer can set the selling price here. This limits or eliminates competition through retail pricing. This is to ensure that non-profitable regions are supplied at (the same) affordable prices.

In newsagents, the wholesaler's selling price to the retailer and the - higher - retailer's selling price to the end customer is set by the publisher. The retailer's trading margin is the difference in sales prices less VAT . It is often around 20 percent. The wholesaler's trading margin, on the other hand, varies between around 30 percent for small editions and 13 percent for very large editions.
