Exit ballistics

The exit ballistics (also known as muzzle , intermediate or transition ballistics ) of barrel weapons examines the movement of the projectiles as well as related processes at the muzzle and in its immediate vicinity.

Processes that are the subject of exit ballistic investigations change the projectile velocity and exit errors occur. Determining these changes is the first major problem in exit ballistics.

When the gun is fired, acoustic and electromagnetic (especially optical, but also in the infrared ) phenomena occur at the muzzle and in its immediate vicinity , which can be used to detect, locate and identify the weapon. These reconnaissance tasks and the corresponding camouflage tasks form the second main problem of exit ballistics.
