Press brake tool

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A press brake tool is a tool used to work sheet metal. Press brakes are used in press brakes .

Bending tools are the upper tools (punch) and lower tools (die). During the bending process, a workpiece (usually sheet metal) is formed in a die between the punch and the die. The upper and lower tools are interchangeable. The upper tool consists of the upper beam, the clamping plate and the punch. The lower tool consists of the lower beam, the centering plate and the die. The punch and die are interchangeable and available in various shapes and dimensions, and can be manufactured according to the profile required.

In order to increase the service life of the tools and their wear resistance, the tools can be hardened , often laser hardening is carried out for this purpose.

Sheet metal and strips are bent around straight edges. To produce cold profiles, the sheet metal or strip is inserted into the die, then the punch is lowered into the die and the sheet metal is deformed into the desired profile.

With swivel bending machines ( swivel bending ), the sheet metal is clamped and the protruding strip is bent over from the swiveling bending trough. This means that thicker sheets with higher tensile strength can also be folded over with shorter bending lengths and larger inner radii.
