The ablation Lake is an Ice Lake in Ablation Valley on the Antarctic Alexander Island . It contains salt water overlaid with fresh water and reaches depths of up to 117 meters. In its upper section, it is dammed by ice that penetrates the lake from the neighboring George VI Ice Shelf .
It was named in 1977 by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee after the valley of the same name, which was named after the rudimentary amounts of ice and snow that existed here, which disappeared as a result of ablation . In 1973 the British Antarctic Survey conducted a limnological survey of the lake.
