Delivery directory

The delivery directory is a term used in archives . This is a listing of delivery to an archive entering written material or to be acquired media. Before the computer age there were usually forms for delivery directories: Already in the early modern period , handwritten delivery directories were created by some archivists . Today, such directories are usually created with the help of database or table programs on the computer and serve as a preliminary finding aid and as a basis for the archival evaluation until they are opened up by archive staff.

  • In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the submission directory usually contains minimal information as a serial number or, in the best case, the signature from the underlying file plan, the file title and the term of the respective archive material.
  • In the GDR there were forms for delivery directories. In addition to the accession number, the serial number and the file plan number, the columns of the form indicated the file title or a brief summary of the contents of the relevant file. There were also columns for the scope of time, the retention period and other notes. The submission register had the status of a document in the archives of the GDR .
