Abney Park is a steampunk band from Seattle . The band mixes elements from dark wave , post-industrial , alternative rock and film music in their music , but their work is also influenced by world music .

history

Abney Park was founded in 1997 by Robert Brown. In 1998 they released their first full-length album, Abney Park, and in 1999 they finally released Return to the Fire . Titles from these two albums appear on their third release, Cemetery Number 1 , along with some new songs . In the early years of Abney Park, her style tended towards musicals.

In 2005 the band released Taxidermy , a collection of new versions of songs from their previous albums, three live recordings and two cover versions. In the same year they began to transform their previous external style into steampunk . In 2006 they released the album The Death of Tragedy . After the release, the cast also changed with the departure of Traci Nemeth, Krysztof Nemeth and Robert Hazelton, replaced by Magdalene Veen, Jean-Paul Mayden and Nathaniel Johnstone. Shortly afterwards, Mayden left the band and was replaced by Daniel C. Magdalene Veen meanwhile left the band to concentrate on her art. She was replaced by Finn from Claret. As part of their transformation, the band members invented fictional likenesses of themselves with a full backstory about the band as the crew of the HMS Ophelia airship .

Abney Park has played across North America at events like Dragon * Con, Saturnilla, Utah Dark Arts Festival, Bats Day, Convergence Festival, and Mask and Veil.

In 2013 and 2016 the band played at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig. In 2015 the band played at the Dark Munich Festival.
