Nod off

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nodding is a slang expression for informal consent to decisions by nodding the head. In the hunter language it is used differently for a form of killing.

Colloquial language

If there is consensus on a decision in meetings or commissions , general agreement with a proposal can be indicated by nodding the head , and the chairman can dispense with voting on less important items on the agenda . On the other hand, the word is often used rather derogatory when decisions have already been made elsewhere (often in a "small circle", in the "back room), but formally another, larger committee only" gives its blessing to the decision afterwards ".

Similar non-verbal behaviors are expressed in the terms “knocking through” (for long meetings, e.g. of university bodies) or when “waving through” at national borders .
