Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) , formerly Abu Dhabi Securities Market (ADSM) , is a stock exchange in Abu Dhabi ( United Arab Emirates ). It was founded on November 15, 2000 by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to trade shares in companies from the UAE and a few other countries. There are trading locations in Abu Dhabi, Al-Ain , Fujairah , Sharjah and Ra's al-Khaimah . The Dubai Financial Market (DFM) is another exchange that trades shares of other UAE public companies. However, investors can also trade ADX stocks with some of the brokers based at DFM .
More companies are listed in the ADX than in the DFM, but the trading volume is usually much lower. Between 2004 and 2005, share prices and trading activity increased significantly. From the end of 2005 to mid-2006 there was a significant decrease in the ADSM overall index in the first half of 2006 by a little more than 30%. In July 2018, the market capitalization of all companies listed on the stock exchange was 132.8 billion US dollars, above that of the DFM.
