Defense tension

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Defense tension (also defense musculaire ) is a technical term from medicine . It is used to describe the involuntary strong tension of the abdominal muscles in the event of a strong, sudden and then persistent peritoneum stimulus .

Defense tension occurs in an acute abdomen . It is determined by the feeling of the hand ( palpation ). It can be localized or generalized across the entire abdomen .

The symptoms may be less pronounced in children, elderly or obese patients, but they do not lose their explosiveness.

If there is tension in the defense, an immediate clarification of the acute abdomen is necessary. In addition to laboratory tests and imaging procedures ( sonography , computed tomography ), an exploratory laparotomy may also have to be performed to clarify the cause.
